Things to do:

The French River is one of the most historic waterways in Canada, used by the earliest explorers of the interior of North America as a gateway to western Canada and the American Midwest.

Today, the River is Canada's first designated historic waterway, with a large provincial park, resorts, excellent golf courses, incredible fishing, hundreds of miles of snowmobile trails and beautiful boating routes upstream to Lake Nipissing and downstream to Georgian Bay.

The French River provides a wide variety of outdoor recreation including:

  • large tracts of unspoiled natural scenery, accessible from major population centres.
  • innumerable bays, lakes and river channels offering exceptional small-craft boating, canoeing, kayaking, and touring.
  • sport fishing for yellow pickerel, northern pike, small-mouth bass, and muskellunge.
  • one of Ontario’s most important herds of white tailed deer which may be seen along the southern shores of the upper French River.
  • exceptional opportunities for cruising and yachting at either end of the river corridor on Lake Nipissing and on Georgian Bay.

Canoeing: The French River offers many kilometers of navigable water on a number of canoe routes, descriptions of which are available from Friends of French River Heritage Park; Ontario Parks - French River Provincial Park, (705) 287-2900

There are several restaurants nearby, as well as 2 markets and a butcher in the nearby town of Alban.

Sudbury, 40 minutes away, has all modern conveniences and numerous tourist attractions, including Science North, with many exhibits and an IMAX theatre.
